Quarto Giorno/Day 4

Panarea, Lipari & Stromboli

  • Brown bag breakfast / colazione and then off to Vibo Marina to catch our ferry per una vera odissea in the crystal blue seas around the Aeolian Islands. These are said to be named after Aeolus, the mythical ruler of the winds.

  • The Aeolian Islands, also known as the Lipari Islands, are a volcanic archipelago located in the Tyrrhenian Sea. While they are administratively part of Sicily (specifically Messina), they are geographically positioned closest to Calabria and were historically important to the Greek colonies of Calabria.

  • We’ll enjoy free time to get lost in Panarea’s whitewashed wandering streets before heading to Stromboli, where we’ll explore black sand beaches and enjoy a swim in the shadow of the active volcano. Roberto Rossellini filmed his epic film “Stromboli” here, starring Ingrid Bergman in 1949. Our day concludes admiring the Sciara del Fuoco (live eruption) of Stromboli’s volcano after sunset.

  • Lunch / pranzo in chic Panarea or smokin’ Stromboli and dinner in Stromboli both on your own.

  • Late night return to Popilia under a star-studded sky.
